The National Sea Turtle Conservation, is conducted since 2009 by the National Biodiversity, Ministry of Environment, and consists of transferring to a controlled breeding ground the nests of turtles that are at risk, either by high tides or looting.
Recently on the Central Coast, were released a total of 834 sea turtles belonging to the species (Dermochelys coriacea), in the sector La Sabaneta, Vargas state, as part of the turtle conservation projects being implemented by the Ministry of Environment .
In this town there are brigades formed by the same people who are tasked to protect this endangered species, through the identification, transfer and protection of embryos in artificial nests, until such time the release of the turtles in the coast, according to a press release of the institution.
These groups promote integration activities as making murals related to the preservation of turtles, and talks aimed to the collective to encourage their participation in the maintenance of the species, making the same community as guardians of breeding conditions that require these female specimens.
Also, around 7,410 green turtles (Chelonyas midas) were born in Bird Island, located in Venezuela, in the Caribbean Sea, west of the Sotavento Islands, which are also part of the same program.
This island is a wildlife refuge guarded by Minamb together with the Bolivarian Armed Forces (FANB -in spanish), via Scientific Naval Base Simon Bolivar, space has become one of the leading places in the world for playing this chelonian.
The spawning period of these endangered animals, especially covers the months of June to November, when the sexual reproductive-age females nest more than 100 eggs each.
Annually, during the nesting phase, the ministry made a count of these turtles, both those born as recaptured, to keep track of the species.
The method consists of placing with a metal clip a metal precinct to mark with a number of international classification, then measured the length and width of the shell, as reported by specialists.
Bird Island is located in the Caribbean Sea, a strategic location that allows sharing borders with Venezuela Dominican Republic, United States, France, and islands like Dominica, Barbados and others.
According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature and the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (Cites), this marine species is endangered, so this firm maintains shelters for the sake of collaborate with reproduction, through respect of the spaces where they lay their eggs.
