With the participation of more than 400 schools Directors of public and private education, began the program Eco School developed by the Foundation Blue Environmentalist.
At the conference “1st meeting with the Directors”, held at the Hotel Venetur in Maracaibo city, met executives of the Blue Environmentalist Foundation, the Director of the Educational Zone of Zulia State and a specialized technical team, which more of 400 directors of educational institutions discussed the development of this program.
This initiative seeks to promote activities developed by the school that benefit the environment and the entire local community where the school is located.
It is a supplement to the Local Agenda 21 and aims to involve the entire school community, whether students, teachers, administrative staff, workers and the community at large.
The school has to apply a methodology that will culminate with the presentation of a Green Flag, which certifies the existence in the school of environmental education initiatives and citizen participation.
In Venezuela, there are legal grounds to establish the Eco School Program . The General Regulations of the Organic Law on Education, the Organic Law on Environment and the ISO rule 14.001.
In the first phase of the program, to achieve the goals set in all the schools involved and engaged to undertake the activity in a systematic way, targeted by the initial proposal, it was oriented toward the strategic lines to follow.
It has been scientifically proven in numerous studies that the major problem urban contemporary is the final destination of the waste or solid waste, poorly known as trash.
For this reason, it was defined in consensus this problem as the initial topic of the campaign Eco School for the school period 2011 to 2012.
To achieve this objective, the issue raised will be the waste, litter and garbage, will be also oriented towards the premise of: REDUCE, REUSE AND RECYCLE
With a simple methodology, included in six steps, being the main one the conformation of the Environmental Committee, who will take forward the development of the program in their educational centers, it seeks to strengthen the eco behavior holding constant environmental, ecological and conservationist activities.
The UN General Secretary Ban Ki Moon, said in the keynote speech at the 66th session of the General Assembly that “… among the five operational opportunities to shape the world, protecting the environment is decisive and only with education we will be able to produce a massive change of attitude to conservation, where schools are the starting point. ”
